Design a QR sign

Where the sign is made

Open your event in the dashboard and go to the QR & signs tab. On the left is the preview with its measurements in millimetres, 2 arrows below it to step through the designs, and a button for a fullscreen view. On the right are 5 tabs: Format, Design, Colours, Text and Files.

The preview is exactly what prints, with your event’s real code. What you build here is the finished card around the code: your names, a line for your guests, the code itself and the web address in plain text beneath it.

1. Choose format and size. Table cards, handouts or posters, in portrait or landscape.
2. Pick a design and write the text. 19 designs in Nature, Classic and Modern. Names and message are yours to write.
3. Save and download. Save makes it your event’s sign. Then download the PDF or PNG and print 1 test copy.

Format, size and orientation

In the Format tab you first choose what the card is for: table cards for stands or frames, handouts for invitations and guest bags, or posters for entrances, welcome areas and walls. Each format offers its own sizes, 7 in all. Then you choose portrait or landscape format.

Table cards are flat cards, not folded tent cards. Choosing the business card size switches the card to landscape.

A6 is plenty for a table. For the entrance, use a poster in A3 or A2.

The 19 designs

The Design tab holds 19 designs in 3 groups. Nature has 5: Botanical, Eucalyptus, Wreath, Watercolour and Watercolour flowers. Classic has 9: Double border, Script, Arch, Editorial, Ribbon, Art Deco, Scallop, Gallery and Monogram.

Modern has 5: Minimal, Festive, Instant photo, Midnight and Charcoal drawing. Every tile shows your own event, so you see your names in each design before you choose. All 19 work in portrait and landscape format.

The text fields

The Text tab has 4 fields, 5 in the Botanical design. The line above the names takes 40 characters and starts with a phrase such as “The wedding of”; leave it empty and it disappears. The names also take 40 characters and sit large in the middle.

The message takes 120 characters over up to 3 lines, and it is where you say what happens when guests scan. The website address takes 50 characters and already holds your album’s short link. Botanical adds 2 closing lines at the foot of the card, up to 80 characters together.

Colours for the code and the lines

The Colours tab sets 2 things. The QR code comes in 7 colours: black, cream, red, blue, purple, brown and green. Lines and ornaments keep the design’s own colour by default, or take 1 of 7 others: charcoal, cream, champagne, blush, sage, powder blue and lavender.

The plus button next to each row opens a custom colour as well. When in doubt, keep the code black on a light background, because every camera reads that most reliably. Check any other colour with a test print.

PDF, PNG or just the code

The Download PDF button gives you the card at the size you chose. The Files tab offers the same card as an image (PNG, 300 dpi) and the QR code on its own as a PNG. Print at actual size, at home or at a print shop.

To place the code in your own layout, choose QR code in the Format tab. There you download it with a transparent background as a 2048 × 2048 pixel PNG or as an SVG, for invitations, menus or place cards.

Save, then test before printing

Below the tabs the page tells you whether the sign is saved. Save stores the card as your event’s sign; until then it reads “Not saved yet”. After that, download the file and print 1 test copy.

Stand the test copy where it will stand and scan it with a phone that is not yours, from a normal distance. That catches a code that is too small, a colour that fades into the paper and glossy card under bright lights before the whole run is printed.
