Which event type should I pick?

Short answer

Pick the type that matches the occasion: wedding, birthday, party, corporate, conference, sports or other. It sets the wording guests see on the upload page and the prompt above the voice recorder.

It changes nothing else. Storage, video length, file formats, price and every setting are identical across all 7 types.

What the type actually changes

The type picks the wording on the guest page. A wedding reads "become part of their story"; a birthday reads "make their day"; a conference asks for a moment from the stage. The prompt above the voice recorder changes with it, and so does the placeholder in the optional name field.

That wording is the whole of the difference. Nothing behind it is tied to the type.

  1. Pick the closest match. If none fits exactly, choose "other". It reads neutrally rather than wrongly.
  2. Look at the guest page. Open the preview once. The difference between types is visible in 5 seconds.
  3. Change it if it reads wrong. The type is editable afterwards and nothing is lost when you switch.

What stays the same either way

Every limit belongs to the plan, not the type: storage, video length, the number of contributions, how long the album lives. So do the accepted file formats, the moderation options, the download settings and the price. A wedding album and a sports album on the same plan behave identically.

If someone tells you a type unlocks a feature, check the plan instead. That is where the difference sits.

The 7 types, and who they suit

Wedding, birthday and party share a warm register aimed at friends and family. Corporate and conference are more measured and ask for a name and company rather than a first name; sports asks for a race number instead. Other is deliberately plain.

For anything that is not on the list — a christening, a leaving do, a family reunion — "other" is the honest choice and reads better than a type that almost fits.

What each type signals to a guest
TypeRegisterName field asks for
WeddingWarm, personalFirst name
BirthdayWarm, personalFirst name
PartyLight, quickFirst name
CorporateMeasuredName, company
ConferenceMeasuredName, company

OtherNeutralFirst name

The name field only appears if you switch that step on. It is off by default in every type.

Switching type after the fact

Changing the type rewrites the guest-page wording and leaves everything else untouched. Contributions already collected stay where they are, the code keeps working, and no setting resets. The next guest to open the page sees the new wording; anyone with the page already open sees the old.

So there is no cost to trying one, looking at the preview, and picking another.

Type is not language

These are 2 separate settings. The type decides the tone; the guest-page language decides which language that tone is written in. A wedding in English and a wedding in German use the same wording, translated, not different wording.

If your guests are mixed, set the language to the one most of them read and let the rest follow the pictures. The page is short by design.

The only check that settles it

Open the guest page on a phone, not on your computer. That is what your guests will see, and the wording lands differently at that size. If a line reads wrong for your occasion, switch the type and look again — the whole loop takes under a minute.

Do this before you print, not because the code changes, but because the wording is easier to fix when nobody has read it yet.

Common questions

Does the type change what guests can upload?

No. Photos, videos and voice messages are governed by your settings and your plan, never by the type.

Can I change the type after guests have uploaded?

Yes. Existing contributions stay exactly where they are.

What should I pick for a christening or a leaving do?

"Other". It reads neutrally, which is better than a type that almost fits.

Does the type affect the price?

No. Price and every limit belong to the plan.

Is the type visible to guests?

Not as a label. They only see the wording it produces.
