How guest consent works

What guests confirm when the step is active

It asks for 1 thing only: that you as the host may see the pictures and use them within your own circle. That covers the rights of whoever pressed the shutter and of whoever is in the picture, which in practice coincide. The wording is short by design, because a paragraph on a phone screen at a party is read by nobody.

Marketing use is not part of it. A separate, never pre-ticked box for that existed until August 2026; it has been removed, and the agreements given under it no longer count.

1. Tell guests beforehand. A line on the invitation or the table card says the pictures go into a shared album.
2. Use review-first if a screen is running. On the event’s Moderation page. Nothing appears until you approve it.
3. Ask for names only if you need them. “Ask for a name” under Guest pages puts a name to a picture. It is not consent.

Off by default, and no switch yet

Every question before the first upload costs contributions, and at a party the cost is high — people are holding a glass and deciding in seconds. So the default is the shortest possible path, and at the moment the dashboard has no switch to add the step.

The hosts who would want it run a public venue, a client event or anything meant to travel beyond the room. If that is you, write to us before the event.

What gets recorded

When the step is active, it keeps more than a tick: a record of which wording was on the screen, in the language of the guest page, checked by the server against the current text rather than taken from the browser. Each uploaded file also carries a reference to the agreement it was sent under.

The question comes back with every new batch of uploads, not only the first of the evening, so an answer never covers files that were already on their way. If the wording is revised later, a fresh confirmation is needed.

Only the name question can be switched on today, and it is the cheaper of the 2: the contribution is safe before it is asked.

Consent is not retention

These 2 get confused constantly. Consent settles whether you may use what a guest sent. Retention decides how long the file exists at all, and it runs on the event s own clock whether or not anybody agreed to anything.

Where consent is asked, it does not extend an album, and where it is not, nothing gets shorter.

When a guest changes their mind

Guests cannot remove their own contributions, because without an account there is nothing that proves a file is theirs. So a withdrawal comes to you, and the honest response is to delete rather than hide — hiding keeps the file with you, which is not what was asked.

Act quickly. A guest who has to ask twice stops contributing.

Saying it out loud instead

For many parties a sentence beats a checkbox: tell guests the pictures become visible to everyone at the event. That sets the expectation without adding a step, and it is the part people actually want to know.
