What a signature is good for

After the party the question comes up of who a particular picture is from. Without a name it cannot be answered, because guests upload with no account. The signature closes that gap with the smallest possible effort: a first name, voluntary, after sending.

For a thank-you that is enough. Sorting 60 contributions, you know who to write to instead of guessing.

1. Switch the question on. In the event settings, for the guest page. It applies to the next guest who opens it.
2. Let guests sign. The field appears after sending. Anyone who would rather not stays anonymous with 1 tap.
3. Read the names. The signature sits with the contribution in the dashboard. The guest can change or remove it right after sending.

Voluntary, and not a sign-in

The question deliberately comes after sending rather than before. Skipping it still leaves the upload done, so it costs no contribution. Staying anonymous is an equal answer rather than an evasion, and blank is the normal state.

A signature is not an identity. There is no account behind it and nothing is verified. It is a signature, as binding as one in a guest book.

It applies for the whole evening

Once set, the page carries the signature over to everything the same guest sends afterwards, and it says so explicitly. Somebody who signs at 9 and sends 5 more pictures at midnight does not have to type again.

Changing and removing it happen on the same screen. After that the contribution stands unnamed again.

What does not fit in it

The field is capped at 40 characters and meant for a first name, not a message. Links are rejected, and the page says so as it is typed. Anyone wanting to tell the hosts something takes the voice note instead, where it belongs.

At a company event the page suggests name and company; at a sports event a race number or a name. The suggestion follows the event type.

The name on the live wall

If you show a live wall in the room, the signature can appear on it. That is the reason to treat it like any other contribution: what is on the screen is seen by everyone. In the wall settings you decide whether name and time, time only, or nothing is shown.

With the review step running you see the signature together with the contribution before approving it.

Switch it on, or leave it off?

Switch it on if you want to say thank you afterwards or label the album later. Leave it off if every extra step is 1 too many and the pictures may stand on their own. Both are defensible; only attributing them afterwards is impossible.

If you are unsure, switch it on. A skipped step costs nothing, a missing name cannot be recovered.
